Georg Baselitz

Hans-Georg Kern better known as Georg Baselitz (°1938 in Deutschbaselitz)painter, sculptor and printmaker pioneered Neo-Expressionist and deliberately employing a raw style in order to convey direct emotion. End of the 60’ies Baselitz began to paint his subjects upside down in order to slow down his process of painting as well as the viewer’s comprehension of the motif; achieving a form of abstraction while maintaining figuration.
